When I began writing this post this morning the sun was out in full force…it is now beginning to rain and the thunder is rolling. Well what can I say, it is April after all – and this is typical British weather!
Despite the weather, I love being British and I am really proud of the British beauty brands that are making a big impression on the global beauty industry. Having worked in the beauty industry for a number of years, I have seen more and more home grown brands not only launch onto the market but go on to become huge successes! I mentioned a couple of these brands in my recent feature in Black Beauty and Hair magazine last month, and I will reviewing a selection of British brands that I know and love or that are new to the market. I really want to share the amazing entrepreneurial, innovative and creative spirit that exists here on these pleasant pastures of the British Isles.
Today I am reviewing the brand Abahna – I know, I know,it doesn’t sound very British, but it was created by husband and wife team Claire and Edward Croft in 2005, right here in the UK.
I actually discovered this brand around 2007, when I took one of my (regular) trips to Liberty – I feel in love with it then – and I am still very much in love with it now! The inspiration for the range came from the couples global travels.
“….Edward and I loved to visit exotic locations in India, Indonesia and Bali where bathing is considered to be a ritual. Throughout the ages, bathing has involved so much more than just getting clean. We were totally inspired by the whole ceremony of bathing and wanted to re-create this in our own range”, Claire stated in a recent article.
The range has grown significantly since 2005 and consists of the bath and body products, home fragrance, hand care and the most beautiful gift sets and it comes in four fragrances that are essential oil based:
Mandarin & Sicilian Bergamot is uplifting – a light, refreshing blend, the perfect way to start the day.
Lilac Rose & Geranium is relaxing – containing a rose essence for its nurturing properties and kindness to dry and sensitive skin.
White Grapefruit & May Chang is refreshing – With fresh citrus notes, this is a vivacious blend to lift your spirits and brighten your mood.
Frangipani & Orange Blossom is soothing – This vibrant scent brings the warmth of sunshine to mind and body.
I was sent some items from the current range to try and as a beauty product junkie, the Abahna products satisfies all of my desires – quality product, heavenly fragrances and gorgeous packaging. The design of the packaging – with the gold lettering popping against the vibrant colours of the boxes is unashamedly luxurious and you just want to display them on your dressing table for all to see! If you are also looking for a products that is free from SLS, parabens, petrochemicals or artificial colours, then this is the brand for you!
The EDP – White Grapefruit and May Chang 10ml
This is such a beautiful item to possess… I was blown away with the packaging.
The keepsafe box opens up to display the chic, gilded vial with a stylish tassel that denotes old school glamour with modern twist.
The fragrance is crisp and light and is suitable for everyday wear. It really is my type of fragrance as the sweetness of the May Chang berry oil offsets the freshness of the Grapfruit, without it casuing the fragrance to smell to saccharine. At just £15, it would make an excellent, purse friendly gift, and the vial can also be refilled too!
The Hand Cream – Frangipani & Orange Blossom.
This award winning hand cream is rich without being greasy. The formula consists of a blend of organic cocoa butter and sweet almond oils which deeply moisturised and hydrated my skin.
Every girls needs a tube of hand cream for their handbag, and in my opinion you cannot go wrong with this tube!
The Bath and Shower Gel and Body Lotion – Mandarin & Sicilian Bergamot
This fragrance is certainly invigorating and it is perfect for the start of the day. I felt that the fragrance would also appeal to men, very much in the same way that Jo Malone’s Lime Basil & Mandarin fragrance does …so you may have to hide these products away!!
The shower gel generates a lot of foam – so a little goes a long way. I followed my shower by using the body lotion. Although it was quite thin in consistency, the quality of the product is unquestionable. I usually find that body lotions do not moisturise my skin sufficiently and I am left looking ashy after a few hours, but this lotion performed brilliantly, which must be down to the organic cocoa butter, organic shea butter and sweet almond oil that it contains….ummm… doesn’t it sound divine??
With prices ranging from just £4 (for a mini soap) to £85 for a generous gift set for the home, Abahna products are a luxury you can indulge in without breaking the bank!
