It’s a Wrap! Vicki Igbokwe of the @UchennaDanceCo celebrates OUR beauty with the interactive dance theatre production #HeadWrapDiaries

I couldn’t wait for the summer this year, as I knew that one item I would be added to my accessory arsenal would be head wraps!

I was a head wrap virgin and watched numerous YouTube tutorials until I got the hang of tying my wraps with ease!

I was inspired to start wearing wraps not only as a beautiful, colourful expression of my style but as a black woman, I wanted to showcase the beauty of our cultural heritage – from the detail of the ankara prints to the embracing of my natural curls.

So it is with great excitement and pleasure that I can tell you about an upcoming interactive dance theatre production that celebrates the versatility and diversity of femininity, beauty, culture and most importantly our hair, called the Head Wrap Diaries, that was created and choreographed by Vicki Igbokwe founder and director of the Uchenna Dance.

Vicki founded Uchenna Dance January 2009, shortly after she experienced a life-changing trip to New York during the summer of 2008. Her work blends club styles House, Waacking and Vogue, fused with African and Contemporary dance.

Vicki reached out to me last year and we connected over a spot of breakfast. Since then, she has become a firm friend of Keziah CONNECTIONS and has attended many of the events and champions the evenings online and to her circle!

Thank you SOOO much for your kind words @uchenna_dance!! I really appreciate it! Can’t wait to share more about the #HeadWrapDiaries project with my followers!! #brownbeauty #womensupportingwomen #celebratingsuccess #makingadifference #blackgirlmagic #wocinbusiness #wocinbeauty #britishbrownbeauty #uchennadance

Vicki is not only a talented dancer, but is a trained Empowerment Specialist. She uses her skills and vision to inspire others be they individuals or groups of people..

…she was also speaker at the Institute of Directors’ (IoD’s) Women in Business Conference in 2015.

So, you can be sure that you will be in for a cultural treat when watching the Head Wrap Diaries, where three fierce, clever and witty female characters take us through stories of community, heritage womanhood and friendship.
