Event: Let’s Talk About…Black Women In Beauty.

The new year is in full swing and so too are the events that will bring Black women and Women of Colour together to debate, network, grow and build.

One such event is the Black Women In Beauty networking evening that is being hosted at the Black Cultural Archives (BCA) in Brixton on the 25th of January, where I will be sharing the stage with five other fantastic Black Women making their mark in the British Beauty industry.

The event has been organised by Kehryse Johnson-Fraser, who is in charge of community hires at Black Cultural Archives (and is also a friend of Keziah CONNECTIONS!). Kehryse is greatly inspired by the work of the BCA and created the Black Women In events to connect Black British women within various industries.

She is passionate about providing safe spaces for honest sharing and empowered growth. The BCA is an ideal venue to host the event as it exists to collect, curate and preserve the evidence of Black British history. Events such as these will certainly contribute to the tapestry of this collective narrative.

You can follow Kehryse on Instagram or join her on Facebook.

The questions that will be discussed on the evening include:

-Why in 2018 are Black women still treated like an afterthought in beauty?

-Should we be buying Black-owned cosmetics or asking mainstream brands for inclusion?

-What is the best practice for tackling colorism/shadeism?

-What beauty trends can we expect in 2018?

The panel will be chaired by Jamila Robertson, fashion and beauty journalist and creator of Slapp; the makeup app that matches cosmetic products to those with a darker skin tone.

The other panelists are: Ronke Adeyemi of ondolady.com and brownbeautytalk.com

Christelle Gbeudjeli, Smashbox MUA…

…Charlene Lavile founder of NIZZ Cosmetics

…and Shirley De Lawrence, CEO of Miss Caribbean & Commonwealth UK and founding editior of shirleydee.com.

Tickets are only £10, which include a glass of wine and light refreshments for each guest. Join us from 7pm!
