It is that time of year again!
Mizani is on the look out for the most talented, creative and inspirational Afro stylists!
I covered the stages of the selection, shortlisting and the grand finale of the 2012 awards on my blog last year. Check out the posts here, here and here!
Here is last’s years winning look by the TONI&GUY Regent Street team. Last year’s triumphant stylist was the up and coming Erika Selvaggio, who went on to be a British Hairdressing Awards (BHA) finalist in the Afro Hair category.
Do you think you are up for the challenge? If so, read on…
The 2013 Mizani Afro Look Awards have launched and they are expecting 100’s of creative hairdressers from all over the country to send them their interpretation of the new brief:
Entrants must create a well-executed, inspirational. Modern colour with a beautiful editorially inspired style and finish on a female model of African/Caribbean descent, complementing an Autumn / Winter 2013/14 Trend to create a show-stopping total look.
To enter each hairdresser will need to supply a 10” by 8” photography or a 300mb jpeg of their model look and 6 Live finalists will be chosen. The sought after Mizani Afro Look Award is part of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy Awards, the longest running most prestigious hair competition that celebrates ‘Hair Inspired by Fashion’ and is now in its 58th year.
Once the 6 finalists have been selected they will compete in a live final with an acclaimed and highly accomplished judging panel, each specialists in Afro hair who include Eugene Davis, Junior Green, Charlotte Mensah and Michelle Thompson.
As a marketer, I would strongly encourage any salon out there to enter these awards. Even just being shortlisted as a finalist is a fantastic PR story for your salon and the endorsement of your expertise DOES influence the customer’s choice. It would be great to see more independent salons enter the awards, as not only would the recognition be beyond amazing but be involved in such competitions causes the entrants to push themselves and reach for greater heights, thus enhancing their skill set and creative output, which will ultimately make them a better stylist – a boon for their salon, the customer and the British Afro hair salon sector alike!
Eugene Davis Comments;
“Winning the Mizani Afro Catwalk Award would take any hairstylist to the next level of their career. They will be publicly recognised for their talent; not only among there piers but by leaders in this industry, therefore giving them a platform and influence for the future of hairdressing.”
