The Black Skin Directory Is Here!

It is finally here! After months of dedication and hard work by its founder, the Black Skin Directory has launched!

The Black Skin Directory connects women of colour to expert skincare professionals via a free online portal. It was founded by Dija Ayodele, a good friend of Beauty Pulse London. Dija is a qualified aesthetician and has always been passionate about the quest for healthy skin for her clients. She also boasts over ten years beauty industry experience ranging from beauty journalism, blogging, product formulation, consulting and brand ownership.

After hearing one too many of her clients report that they had been turned away for treatment because a clinic ‘did not do black skin’, Dija decided to take action and make a valuable contribution to meet an obvious need.

After doing a bit of digging, including research at the Afro Hair and Beauty Show in London and inquiring with many great dermatologists and skincare professionals experienced in treating darker skin tones Dija was able to ascertain the need. In spring of last year, Dija also conducted a survey, which revealed that women of colour desire access to the same professional skincare treatments as white women.

However, it is important that skin care professionals confidently demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in treating skin of colour. The offering has already been featured on stylist.co.uk and metro.co.uk

In addition, it is important to Dija that women of colour are provided with the most current information and education about treatments and products suitable for their skin tones, thus the Black Skin Directory not only acts as an online ‘Yellow Pages’ that women of colour can use and trust to locate skin care professionals, visitors to the site can also benefit from the latest news and updates on the best products and treatments.

Likewise, skincare professionals can tap into the Black Skin Directory network to promote their services, products and treatments to the women of colour demographic.

Thanks for your comment Vicky! It is often down to US to create the services we need. Dija has developed this platform based on customer need! If you are London based it would be great to see you at my next Keziah CONNECTIONS event in partnership with the Black Skin Directory! Find out more here > bit.ly/2HnhyAd
