Proudly British! Proudly Jamaican!

Proudly British! Proudly Jamaican!

…but I wanted to take the time to celebrate the winning performances of British Jamaican and Caribbean beauty and lifestyle entrepreneurs and movers and shakers here on the blog!

This group of hard working, enterprising and outstanding people also make me proud to be Caribbean.

This is my winning Beauty and Lifestyle Team JA!

Team JA member 1: Keysha Davis – Editor, Blackhair Magazine

No one can deny the transformation the beauty magazine Blackhair has undergone over the past few years…eye catching covers, engaging editorial and impressive imagry…which can all be attributed to the magazine’s editor in chief Keysha Davis. Keysha joined the publication in 2010 and she and the team have worked hard to update and refresh the offering! It certainly gets the BPL approval!

I have had the wonderful opportunity to get to know Keysha quite well and not only is she a dedicated professional she is a truly becoming soul that is always ready to partner and collaborate.

Team JA member 2: Gemma Feare – Miss Jamaica UK

Ambitious, intelligent, beautiful and aspirational are just some of the words used to describe talented young graduate and entrepreneur.

At just 22, she has lived an enviable and animated life. She
has travelled the world, won awards and inspired many people along her short but fruitful journey thus far. Gemma is the current Miss Jamaica UK after winning the 2012 pageant.

She co-ordinated and managed her own promotional tour of Jamaica earlier this year, visiting schools, children’s homes and
attending national events, receiving extensive media coverage island-wide.

Not only a (very) pretty face, she has the brains to boot as well – Gemma attained a First class degree in Business Management with Commercial Law from the University of Westminster last year and plans to attend Cass Business School to study for a Masters in Management, incorporating the Entrepreneurship pathway.

She is a likeable and personable young woman who continues to highlight the positive attributes of Jamaica, which often get overlooked.

Gemma’s publicty is looked after by fellow British Jamaican Melissa Miles, CEO of Merite PR

Team JA member 3: Alicia Thornwaite founder of AfroDeity Ltd.

AfroDeity is an online store promoting natural Caribbean Inspired hair and skin products with the ultimate goal of helping help small farmers in the Caribbean and reinvigorate the declining agricultural industry. The company was founded by chemist graduate and former Drug Surveillance Scientist Alica Thornwaite and her wonderful mother Joilette just over 2 years ago.

Congrats ladies!

Team JA members 4: Albertha’s Garden

I featured the Tony and Karen, founder’s of the rapidly growing brand Albertha’s Garden on my blog earlier this year. Tony is from Jamaica and Karen hails from the beautiful island of Grenada!

Katrina, a professional lawyer this year, and her partner Tamara, a project manager for an engineering company, both embarked on their new venture after some horrendous experiences buying hair extensions from rogue traders.

Doug Richard, founder of the School For Startups said, ‘We are delighted with the progress Mane Divas has made and it is clear to see that many young people are eager to start up their own businesses and our free Launcher Programme is able to help them realise that goal’.

The ladies also retail a selection of hair care products including Jamaican Black Castor Oil.
