London Fashion Week SS13 has packed up shop for another year!
Fashion, frolicks AND a show featuring an all Black model lineup
I didn’t get the chance to visit this year, as I have been busy planning and preparing for the second Keziah CONNECTIONS NURTURE AND NETWORK™ evening (which is talking place tomorrow – make sure you a grab a ticket!!)….
…however I was invited by the lovely team at TONI&GUY HQ, to visit the TONI&GUY pop up salon called the Blow Out Bar for a wash, style and cut!!
As I am sure you know, TONI&GUY have been one of the official sponsors of London Fashion Week for many years and the partnership is now in its 17th season..
…the internationally renowned TONI&GUY Artistic team worked on 28 shows, for some of the biggest names in the business including Betty Jackson, Paul Costello and Bora Aksu.
I currently have my hair in braids and so couldn’t take up the offer but I did want to find out how well the TONI&GUY team would fare working with (relaxed) afro hair, so I sent my sister along to embark on the experience!
My sister had had her hair in braids for a while and had just relaxed it prior to the T&G visit – the ends were quite uneven and the hair was in need of a good trim!
Her hair was tended to by Samantha Reed of the Teddington T&G branch, who firstly washed and treated her hair with the label.m (T&G’s own label salon brand) Organic Moisturising Lemongrass Shampoo (£13.95, 200ml) and Conditioner (£17.95, 200ml). The products contains high levels of certified organic (approved by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Organic Programme) ingredients including Quince, Oats, Rice Milk Powder and Jojoba Oil. ‘Hair is hi-drenched, naturally, without build-up’ (according to the label.m website), and ‘totally uplifts with intensely olfactic Lemongrass extract’
My sister really liked the feel of these products on her hair!
Here is Samantha telling us how she achieved the shape and style (which I was really impressed with!)

The styling products used were:
label.m Relaxing Balm (£13.75, 150ml), which has been formulated to work with curly or relaxed hair. The naturally taming blend of Lavender, Apricot, Barbados Cherry and Grape nourishes and protects.
label.m Frizz Control Serum provided a glossy lustre.
I really liked that fact that my sister’s hair looked healthy and glossy – without looking too shiny….you know how it is ladies… when you you visit certain black salons and the stylist plasters your hair with products such as ‘oil sheens’, ‘polishes’ and ‘edge control products’, many of which contain cheap mineral oils and do NOTHING for the health of your hair.
I much prefer the subtle sheen a la Michelle Obama – glossy but not greasy!
All in all, my sister thoroughly enjoyed her visit to the Blow Out Bar, the stylist was pleasant and knowledgeable, the products used enhanced the look of her hair and the cut suited her face and added bounce and movement!
Thanks TONI&GUY!
Nice blowout! I definitely agree that hair with a healthy sheen trumps the overly shiny look.
I had my hair done at LFW in February and the Toni & Guy team did a great job. The label M products they used worked well on my natural (3a-c) hair.
The brand seems to be well received by afro hair consumers! A top British brand!
Great post, I am loving the label.m products 😀
Thanks!! The quality of the products are indisputable!
