New Season! Fashion! Fashion Weeks! New collections!

It's that time of year again!

It’s that time of year again!

My Twitter and Instagram timelines are awash with catwalk pictures from London Fashion Week and the make-up houses are touting their Fall collections – so I thought it would be a good time to review the latest AW13 campaigns that feature beautiful woman of colour!

Please accept my apologies for my tardiness on covering ths topic of late – I completely missed reviewing many of the SS13 campaigns such as the Beyoncé for H&M and Jourdan Dunn for the Selfridges Demin Studio

The venerable Joan Smalls’ career continues to grow from strength to strength. This suave campaign is the latest to be added to her list of accomplishments. Joan has traversed both the fashion and beauty powerhouses and still holds the position of one of the ‘Beautiful Women of Estée Lauder‘.

Marks and Spencers’ Leading Ladies Campaign

I am sure that you haven’t been able to miss the latest Marks and Spencer campaign – in store, outdoor, press and online – it is everywhere!

And quite rightly so – as once again, M&S champions its British heritage and reflects the multicultural society that we are with this campaign featuring British women who are trailblazers, icons, pioneers the movers and shakers in their fields!

Shot by acclaimed fashion photographer, Annie Leibovitz, the campaign will launched nationwide on 3rd September – the company stating that it is ‘signalling a reassertion of M&S’ leading quality and style credentials’.

Despite being very different people, their strong sense of personal style and inspirational achievements which have propelled them to success, are the common threads which bind them together.

The full line up is:
Nicola Adams – Olympic Gold Winning Boxer
Monica Ali – Award-Winning Author
Helen Allen – Nurse of the Year 2011

Boots No 7 ‘Real Women’ Campaign

Unlike the M&S campaign there didn’t seem to be the massive press fanfare about the Boots’ campaign – but I came across it as I was out and about, doing my shopping and minding my own business – I saw this poster in the Boots’ store front..
2013-09-14 20.07.51

.. the ‘beautiful black model’ is in fact Ade, a 29 year old Banking Compliance Officer. The Boots’ campaign centres on the 5 women’s desire to experience a makeover as they contemplate who they are and where they are in life.

Watch Ade’s story here…

As much as I loved the camapign and the choice the use women that are represetative of normal women of the demographic sprectum of the UK,” I have to admit that I didn’t love Ade’s make up – it is sitting on her skin and could have done with a tad more blending to soften and define the look.

However, her potrait was certainly striking and after my rant complaint about the Christmas 2012 ad, this campaign is obviously a marked improvement! This is what we want to see!

Well curated Natalie. Great to see such a representation of diversity. I share your sentiment on Ade’s make up, but I’m glad she was involved. Lets hope next year builds on all this positive inclusion.
